Owen Biosciences Inc. brings more than 35 years of experience in the development and manufacturing of advanced skincare and topical personal care products. Our formulations incorporate patented and proprietary functional ingredients and innovative formulation technologies designed to support product performance, stability, and skin compatibility.

Founded in 1990 by Dr. Donald R. Owen, Ph.D., OBI grew from his early research in organ preservation and fluid-management technologies. Principles from this work later helped inspire the development of advanced topical formulation systems for skincare, with a focus on hydration, ingredient compatibility, and cosmetic performance. This research-driven approach continues to form the scientific foundation of Owen Biosciences.

Dr. Owen developed specialized in vitro human cell culture models to evaluate the effects of topical ingredients and finished formulations on skin-relevant parameters associated with visible aging, skin tone, appearance, barrier support, and hair and scalp care. These models provide a valuable research platform for assessing ingredient compatibility, formulation performance, and cellular response without the use of animal testing. Dr. Owen has been recognized for his work in applying in vitro skin models to topical product development.

Beyond OBI, Dr. Owen also founded Therapeutic Peptide Inc. and contributed to early peptide research and the development of testing methods for evaluating peptide performance in pharmaceutical research and topical formulation applications. Today, OBI continues to develop innovative functional ingredients and advanced formulation technologies designed to improve the performance of skincare and personal care products.
