Owen Biosciences Inc. brings more than 35 years of experience in the development and manufacturing of advanced skincare and personal healthcare products. Our formulations are built on patented and proprietary bioactive ingredients and innovative delivery systems designed to enhance performance and efficacy.

Founded in 1990 by Dr. Donald R. Owen, Ph.D., the company is rooted in his groundbreaking research in organ preservation. This pioneering work led to technologies capable of delivering fluids and vital nutrients to support organ sustainability and transportation. These same core delivery principles enabled Dr. Owen to begin applying the technology to skincare—adapting it to support skin vitality, hydration, and nutrient delivery—ultimately forming the scientific foundation of Owen Biosciences.

Dr. Owen developed specialized in vitro human cell culture models to study the direct effects of products and active agents on dermal aging retardation, collagen/elastin stimulation, pigmentation control, anti-inflammation, and hair growth stimulation. These models are a tremendous asset in skincare research, enabling the testing of product safety and effectiveness without the need for animal testing. Dr. Owen is noted as a leader in the use of in vitro skin modeling for topical product development.

Beyond OBI, Dr. Owen also founded Therapeutic Peptide Inc. and pioneered early peptide development, establishing testing methods to validate efficacy for peptide ingredients in both pharmaceutical and topical dermal applications for peptide ingredients. Today, OBI continues its scientific pursuit in developing new, innovative ingredients and delivery systems to advance the performance of personal healthcare products.
